St. Mary Cathedral School of Gaylord band students qualified for MSBOA State Solo and Ensemble at Manistee High school on March 22, 2014. There were 7 qualifying events which all received a Division 1 rating and a Jazz Combo which received a Division 2 rating. All the students received medals. and Best in State Awards and will be competing in Nationals in July.
Jake McCloughan won the Outstanding Leadership Award for Electronic Press.
Levi Milan's lobbying team won the Lobbying Award.
Thomas Wisniewski won the Outstanding Witness Award of MJP.
Charles Strehl and JP Cole had their bills passed by the house and senate, and signed by the YIG governor. Their bills now have a chance of making their way through Legistlation in the
Michigan State Government and possibly becoming State laws.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States of America and Ladies Auxiliary of the Ralph Holewinski Post 1518 of Gaylord proudly saluted middle school and high school students of St. Mary Cathedral School for their participation in the National Patriot Pen Essay and Voice of Democracy Essay Contests.
Emily Myler was awarded with First Place locally and Third Place in the district, Maggie Schultz was awarded with Honorable Mention locally in the Middle School Contest.

Bekah Myler, Gabby Schultz, Allie Rutkowski, Andre Buclay, JohnPaul Zielinski, Anthony Zielinski, Maggie Warren, and Christian Warren were among the 26,000 youth that attended the 2013 National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis, a dynamic experience enriching the faith and firing the spirit of our Catholic youth.
On September 24, the Most Rev. Bernard A. Hebda, after serving as Bishop of the Diocese of Gaylord for the past four years, was named Coadjutor Archbishop of Newark, New Jersey. Archbishop Hebda, you have left a wonderful impression on our hearts by your true examples of kindness, fairness, and humility, and you will be missed at Gaylord St. Mary School. We will keep you in our prayers and we ask for God's blessings upon you as you undertake your new role as Archbishop of Newark.
