4th Grade Accomplishments

The fourth graders that you see before you have had quite an extraordinary year.  They have grown and matured both physically and academically since the beginning of the year, studied all of the necessary academics, and have worked toward becoming responsible for themselves.

This 4th grade class has learned that flexibility is the key to success!  They  were able to adjust successfully to having not one, not two, but three different teachers.  What an accomplishment! With all of their growth individually, they have also grown as a group.  They have learned to work together during many hands-on activities.

During math these 4th graders have honed their multiplication and division skills, spending hours at school and at home mastering them.  They have taken those skills and applied them to larger and more difficult problems.  They are now such skilled mathematicians that they have even explored area, perimeter, geometric shapes, fractions, and more!

This 4th grade class has learned a lot about Michigan and her history.  They learned about the French fur traders, the Native Americans, the Tin Lizzie, and how great of an impact certain people have had on our great state.  While learning about slavery and the Civil War they showed the compassion and concern that the rest of the North was feeling at that time.  Over the past year they have learned about the different regions in our country and how all contribute to Michigan’s welfare.  Our most recent field trip toFort Coloniel Michilimackinac in Mackinaw City was a great way to review our state’s history.

Finally, this 4th grade class has read several different genres and numerous novels in the past months.  While the “favorite” novel could be argued upon many times over, these fourth graders showed off their creativity by building a diorama of their favorite scene, dressing up in costumes to portray the subject in their biographies, and creating comic strips around their novels.  While their reading skills have grown so have their writing skills.  They have written poetry, short stories, narratives, compare and contrast essays and persuasive essays, all while practicing their grammar skills.

Some of their poetry and ads were even published in the Herald Times!

Most importantly, each fourth grader in this class has worked hard to become independent.  They know what they are capable of achieving and are proud of all that they have accomplished this year.  They are well on their way to becoming marvelous 5th grade students!
