The first
grade Class of 2022 has accomplished an astounding amount of learning
throughout the 2010-2011 school year!
We are readers!
We are very excited about reading picture books and chapter books. We have mastered all the sounds in the
alphabet and know how to read and spell words from over 30 word families. We have been practicing our comprehension
skills with Accelerated Reader and have earned over 250 points! We also practiced our speaking skills by
performing plays and reader’s theaters in front of an audience.
We
wrote every day in first
grade! We have learned to make our
writing more interesting and know how to use correct capitalization and
punctuation. We can write facts,
stories, poetry and friendly letters and wrote and illustrated 21 class books
throughout the school year!
We
can add and subtract one digit AND two digit numbers. We can tell time in five minute intervals and
count pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters.
We know the ones, tens, and hundreds place and can count by 2’s 5’s and 10’s. We have mastered up to 40 objectives in
Accelerated Math. We have learned and
practiced all the basic addition facts and can do them quick!
In
Social Studies and Science we learned about families, animals and life cycles, presidents,
the difference between city, state, country and continent and being
healthy. We did several exploration
activities and experiments, with a variety of items, including pennies and
lemon juice, eggs with vinegar and apples.
We also had a transportation museum in which we researched, wrote, and
shared information about a mode of transportation.
With
the use of technology, we researched different topics throughout the year. We even learned to do Power Point and created
our own slide shows about Storms and Natural Disasters. We practiced and presented them to our
classmates, 3rd grade buddies and guests.
In
Religion we learned about the Sacrament of Baptism. We learned about the life of Jesus, Mary and
other religious figures. We enjoyed
Bible stories with Father James and learned about liturgical holidays. We learned that we can pray anywhere and
anytime.
First
graders have learned to treat each other with respect, to be caring,
responsible, trustworthy, fair, and to be good citizens. We have also learned to work together as a
team and encourage and help one another.
This year we have worked very hard to be “Bucket Fillers”!
We
learned through field trips this year too.
We joined our third grade buddies on a field trip to the Oden Fish
Hatchery and Cross in the Woods. We also
toured the U.S. Post Office and enjoyed a 1st and 2nd
grade field trip to Freel Park and the Alpine Chocolat Haus.
The
Class of 2022 is very proud of their accomplishments this year.
