Torsky, MA, LLPC The City of Gaylord Located sixty miles south of the Mackinac Bridge on Interstate-75, Gaylord is a rural community of 3500 residents.Gaylord is dubbed “The Alpine Village” and that is reflected in the Swiss-inspired architecture that was made the city’s theme in the mid-1960s. Over the years, Gaylord has become a “Golf Mecca” – a golfer will find twenty-nine courses within a 45-mile radius.In addition, skiers and snowboarders have plenty of options during the winter months.As an outdoorsman’s paradise, plenty of seasonal activities abound.Gaylord also features a quaint downtown shopping district as well as major big-box retailers on a stretch of highway west of town. St. Mary Cathedral School St. Mary is a private, Catholic school.Currently, there are 303 students enrolled in grades pre-kindergarten through twelve. St. Mary is fully accredited by the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools.Course offerings include a full range of academic choices from core curriculum areas to the arts and physical education.Also offered are Advance Placement courses and an opportunity for students to dual-enroll at North Central Michigan College. The school year is divided into four 9-week semester reporting periods.A maximum of seven credits may be taken yearly.Classes meet for 53-minute sessions daily. The Staff St. Mary Cathedral School has a staff of thirty full-time professional educators most of whom have done graduate work and are certified by the State of Michigan.Currently, the overall teacher to student ratio is 1:12.
